Number of Awards & Eligibility: Varies, all eligible students will be automatically considered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a graduating high school senior at the time of award consideration.
  2. Must be a resident of Nevada.
  3. Must complete a required high school curriculum and have a final grade point average of 3.25 or higher.
  4. Must plan to attend one of the following postsecondary institutions in Nevada: College of Southern Nevada, Nevada State College, University of Nevada, Reno, University of Southern Nevada, Western Nevada College, Great Basin College, Sierra Nevada College, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Truckee Meadows Community College.
  5. This award is for U.S. students.
  6. Must enroll in no less than six credit hours per semester.

Description: The Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship initiative was enacted into law by the Nevada Legislature, creating this scholarship to be administered by the State Treasurer. Nevada high school students with GPAs of 3.25 or higher and planning to attend postsecondary institutions in Nevada are eligible.

Additional Information: In 1999, the Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship initiative was enacted into law by the Nevada Legislature, creating the Millennium Scholarship trust fund to be administered by the State Treasurer. The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Board of Regents adopted policy guidelines for the administration of the scholarship. Students should seek assistance from his/her high school counselors and the admissions and financial aid offices of all colleges he/she is considering. For more detailed information regarding program requirements, please refer to the Millennium Scholarship program Policy and Procedures of the NSHE Board of Regents at nevadatreasurer.gov.

Award Amount: The dollar value of the Millennium Scholarship is determined on a per-credit basis. Millennium Scholars at a NSHE community college will receive $40 per enrolled lower division credit hour and $60 per enrolled upper division credit hour. Millennium Scholars at a NSHE state college will receive $60 per enrolled credit hour. Millennium Scholars at all other eligible institutions will receive $80 per enrolled credit hour. Millennium Scholarship funding is limited to a maximum of 12 credits per semester (24 per academic year), counting all coursework at all institutions. Scholarships are available for up to six academic years following high school graduation for up to a maximum life time total of $10,000.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.

Students do not apply for this award directly. Nevada high school students are automatically evalulated by his/her high school for award consideration. The school district will submit the student's name to the State Treasurer's office if the student is an eligible Millennium Scholar. Interested students must work with his/her high school counselor and registrar to make sure that he/she has completed the required courses so that he/she may be eligible for the Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship. Once a student has been submitted as an eligible Millennium Scholar, he/she will then receive an award packet from the State Treasurer's Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship office identifying him/her as a Millennium Scholarship recipient. The student then must complete the Acknowledgment of Award form to be eligible to receive the award. To receive the benefits of the Millennium Scholarship Program, the student must enroll in an eligible institution of higher education in Nevada. The student should contact the institution for admissions procedures and requirements. Additional information on how to apply can be found on the Nevada State Treasurer website. Applications recommended as soon as possible after FAFSA becomes available.
