Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Approximately 69 awards were offered last year. A student may reapply for a scholarship each year through the Campus Liaison or department chair.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must complete 72 or more credit hours by the deadline and 84 credits by the start of the upcoming fall semester. Part-time students or students whose programs have followed an irregular pattern must be at an equivalent stage. In addition, such students must have successfully completed one semester of the colleges intermediate accounting course(s).
  3. Must major in accounting.
  4. Must be a resident of New York.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  6. Must have grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  7. Must be enrolled at a New York state college or university that offers an accounting program registered by the State Education Department as meeting the educational requirements for admission to the CPA examination.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: College juniors or seniors who are residents of New York attending a New York state college or university are eligible for this award. Students must be majoring in accounting and have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Additional Information: The purpose of the Excellence in Accounting Scholarship of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) and its Foundation for Accounting Education (FAE) is to provide financial assistance to encourage and aid deserving candidates to enter the accounting profession. Scholarship awards will be based heavily on financial need. At the same time, applicants must meet or exceed a threshold of acceptable academic performance.

Award Amount: $2,500 per academic year for full-time study and $1,250 for part-time study. Payments will be issued in September. They will be made copayable to the student and the school. The scholarship award will be reduced for students enrolled for less than a full year and will be based upon the terms completed. There is no provision for support for summer session courses.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,875.

Additonal information and applications are available online from the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) website. The applicant may apply through a Registered College's Campus Liaison. A complete listing of liaisons is available online. Each liaison may submit a maximum of three applications for consideration. An individual student who does NOT have a Campus Liaison may submit his/her completed application via his/her department chair. In addition to a completed application students must submit official transcripts, a personal statement, and essay. The student must also file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, and/or at the collge financial aid office. All applications must be submitted via email or fax using the information provided. The application and supporting materials must be received by the deadline date.
