Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a a graduate student to apply for this award.
  3. Must pursue a career in the beef industry. Fields of study may include: animal science, environmental science (water) or agriculture.
  4. Must enroll full time.
  5. Must have an interest in the beef industry through classes, internships or life experiences.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: The W.D. Farr Scholarship is available for graduate students who are pursuing a career in the beef industry.

Application requirements for the W.D. Farr Scholarship are:

  • Essay
  • Recommendation letter
  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Cover sheet
Additional Information: Applications will be evaluated on the following criteria: essay (70 percent), letter of intent (20 percent), and references (10 percent). Essays submitted will be judged on the basis of originality, grammar, clarity of expression, accuracy, relevance of topic and the solutions offered. *Please note: Proof of enrollment as a full-time student will be required to receive the scholarship money.

Award Amount: $15,000 annually, non-renewable. Previous winners are eligible to reapply.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $15,000.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in July for a refreshed application deadline date. Applications are available online on the National Cattlemen's Foundation website. In addition to a completed application, the student must submit the following: a cover sheet (available online); a one-page letter expressing/indicating his/her future career goals related to the beef industry; an essay of 750 words or less describing an issue confronting the beef industry and offering a solution; and three letters of reference including at least one from an instructor, professor, or advisor within the applicant’s college or university department. Applications and all supporting materials must be submitted online by the deadline.
