Description: Current college students who are pursuing a graduate degree at an American institution and are planning a career in landscape architecture are eligible for this award. The award is granted to one student to assist with study and research.

Additional Information: The student's project study should have a wide scope, such as investigating new techniques of garden restoration; studying how small gardens created by community groups have impacted public gardens; exploring and documenting physical, emotional and spiritual healing properties of the garden; and instigating the development of gardens that use ecological and regenerative concepts. These are only a few of the many topics available to interested applicants. Selection criteria will include the degree to which the proposed fellowship work addresses Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF) and Garden Club of America (GCA) objectives, as well as the excellence of the student's academic qualifications and person. The purpose of the GCA is to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening; to share the advantages of association by means of educational meetings, conferences, correspondences and publications; and to restore, improve and protect the quality of the environment through educational programs and action in the fields of conservation and civic improvement.

Award Amount: $4,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.

Applications are available on the Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF) website. The student must apply using the online application system. Please note: There is a $5 (USD) application fee required for each LAF scholarship. Students may apply for multiple awards; however, a separate application fee is required for each. Students must submit the following supplemental application materials for all LAF scholarships: a 4 x 6, 300-ppi color photo in .jpg format (must be a head shot with a plain background); a biography of 150 words of less that describes his/her background, current educational pursuits, future plans, and any other personal interests or activities (must be in PDF, Microsoft Word, or TXT); and a resume of two pages or less that lists education, professional experience, extracurricular activities, and honors and awards (in PDF). The following materials are required for this award, in addition to all aforementioned application materials: a proposal for his/her work to be undertaken of four pages or less that contains an objective, outcome, and method (in PDF); a one-page budget (in PDF); and two letters of recommendation, one of which must be a letter of endorsement from his/her faculty advisor that also certifies enrollment. The student will be required to provide contact information for the recommenders, who will be sent instructions regarding submission of the letters. All application materials must be submitted by the deadline date.
