Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be in the third, fourth, or fifth year of undergraduate study or a graduate student.
  3. Must be a permanent resident of Hawaii.
  4. Must be studying landscape architecture.
  5. Must be attending a LAAB (Landscape Architecture Accrediting Board)-accredited institution. A list of accredited programs is available online at www.asla.org/schools.aspx.

Description: This scholarship is open to Hawaii residents who are in their third, fourth, or fifth year of undergraduate study or are graduate students in a landscape architecture program. Students must attend a LAAB-accredited institution.

Additional Information: This scholarship was established in memory of David T. Woolsey, an alumnus of California Polytechnic University and former principal in the firm of Woolsey, Miyabara and Associates.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications are available on the Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF) website. The student must apply using the online application system. Please note: There is a $5 (USD) application fee required for each LAF scholarship. Students may apply for multiple awards; however, a separate application fee is required for each. Students must submit the following supplemental application materials for all LAF scholarships: a 4 x 6, 300-ppi color photo in .jpg format (must be a head shot with a plain background); a biography of 150 words of less that describes his/her background, current educational pursuits, future plans, and any other personal interests or activities (must be in PDF, Microsoft Word, or TXT); and a resume of two pages or less that lists education, professional experience, extracurricular activities, and honors and awards (in PDF). The following materials are required for this award, in addition to all aforementioned application materials: proof of Hawaii residency, such as a driver's license or tax return (in PDF or JPG); an essay of 500 words or less providing autobiographical information and stating his/her personal and professional goals (in PDF); three 8.5"x11" work samples in one PDF document, with explanatory text for each project; and two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from a design instructor. The student will be required to provide contact information for the recommenders, who will be sent instructions regarding submission of the letters. All application materials must be submitted by the deadline date.
