Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards varies.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a current member of AOPA at both the time of application and when the scholarship is awarded.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident.
  3. Must meet the minimum age requirement for the desired rating or certificate.
  4. Must hold a minimum of an FAA Private Pilot Certificate.

Description: The AOPA Advanced Rating Scholarship supports U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident AOPA members seeking ratings or certificates. It awards scholarships ranging from $3,000 to $10,000 to AOPA members pursuing ratings or certificates in Instrument, Commercial, CFI, CFII and MEI Instructor.

Application requirements for the AOPA Advanced Rating Scholarship are:

  • Recommendation letter
  • Application form.
  • Copy of Pilot License
Additional Information: The AOPA Foundation support a number of flight training scholarships. The AOPA Advanced Rating Scholarship supports outstanding pilots with career aspirations. It awards a range of scholarships ranging from $3,000 to $10,000 to AOPA members pursuing ratings or certificates in Instrument, Commercial, CFI, CFII and MEI Instructor. To be eligible, applicants must be a current paid member of AOPA at both the time of application and when the scholarship is awarded. Other criteria include being a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident.

Award Amount: The scholarship amount is up to $10,000.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.

Upon selection as a recipient, you will be required to present a copy of the class of medical required by the FAA to exercise the privileges of the desired rating or certificate, as well as a copy of your Private Pilot Certificate.
