The founding donors of the Chester Burger Award fund emphasized that Burger has long been considered as one of the pre-eminent leaders in the public relations profession, helping to shape the discipline of public relations counseling at major global corporations, and is revered for his personal dedication to generations of colleagues. He passed away on March 22, 2011, at the age of 90. This scholarship is provided annually to a graduate student in public relations to both honor the memory of Chester, as well as to recognize and encourage those students who share his vision.
