Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of recipients for this program varies according to the number of college students meeting the eligibility requirements in any given year. Last year, nine scholarships were awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must enroll full time.
  4. Must attend an institution of higher education in the state of Illinois.
  5. Must be pursuing a degree with an emphasis in real estate.
  6. Must be a legal resident of the state of Illinois.
  7. Must have completed 30 or more college credit hours at the time of application.

Description: This award is for U.S. college sophomores who are legal residents of the state of Illinois and attend a college/university in the state of Illinois. Applicants must have 30 college credit hours completed and be pursuing a degree with an emphasis in real estate.

Additional Information: The Illinois Real Estate Educational Foundation (ILREEF) is a not-for-profit organization established to aid and promote the work of real estate education throughout Illinois. The foundation is supported by voluntary contributions from organizations and individuals who recognize the importance of furthering academic experience and training in the real estate industry in Illinois. Scholarship awards have become a prominent activity of the foundation. Many students in real estate-related curricula at colleges and universities have benefited from the foundation's scholarship grants. The selection of scholarship recipients will be determined by ILREEF and based on the following criteria: indication of interest in pursuing a career in real estate or an allied field (i.e., construction, land use planning, mortgage banking, property management, real estate appraising, real estate assessing, real estate brokerage, real estate development, real estate investment counseling, real estate law, real estate syndication); record of scholastic achievement, including academic grade point average; economic need or situation; and references and recommendations by instructors, employers, realtors and other prominent individuals. If selected as a finalist in the award process the student will be requested to appear for a personal interview in June or July.

Award Amount: Minimum of $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online on the Illinois Real Estate Educational Foundation (ILREEF) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit a typed, signed statement of the following: general activities and intellectual interests; activities and employment (if any); contemplated line of study; and of the career he/she expects to follow. This statement should not exceed 1,000 words in length and should be written in as simple and direct a manner as possible. The student must also submit a record of military service, if any, giving full details including branch of service, unit, rank, length of service, citations and decorations, or full details of civilian war work; his/her proposed program of study, including a brief description of each course he/she is planning to pursue in working for the degree indicated with the approval of this program, signed by the dean or appropriate official of the college in which the student's work is to be done; a typed statement from the real estate instructor, or if none, the dean of the student's college recommending him/her as an applicant; official copies of transcripts of all of the student's collegiate records (certified by the registrar or some other responsible official) of the courses he/she has taken; and typed letters of recommendation from two persons. It is preferred, but not required, that one of these letters be from a realtor. Replies from these references are to be sent directly to the foundation, are confidential, and under no circumstances to be revealed to the candidate.) The application and all supporting materials must be submitted online by the deadline date.
