Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
  2. This award is for U.S. students.
  3. Must have completed, or be in the process of completing an undergraduate degree at Grand Valley State University or Michigan State University.
  4. Must be a resident of Kent County, Michigan.
  5. Must be accepted to and planning to attend a graduate program at a college or university in Michigan.
  6. Must plan to major in business or law at the graduate level.

Description: This scholarship is available for residents of Kent County, Michigan who have graduated, or are about to graduate with an undergraduate degree from Grand Valley State University or Michigan State University. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and plan to enroll in a Michigan college or university graduate program.

Additional Information: The Grand Rapids Community Foundation awards hundreds of scholarships annually, primarily to Kent County students bound for or in college, or those pursuing a technical career. This scholarship, named in honor of Peggy (Kommer) Novosad, is provided each year to a student who has or is finishing an undergraduate degree at Grand Valley State University or Michigan State University, and continuing on at a graduate program of business or law inside Michigan. Applicants must demonstrate a high level of academic achievement and unmet financial need.

Award Amount: Awards range from $500 to $5,000 depending on the student's unmet need and the availability of funds. Average awards are about $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications and information are available at the Grand Rapids Community Foundation website at the address provided. In addition to the online application form, an interested student must submit transcripts (official or unofficial), an essay describing his/her personal and professional aspirations, and documentation such as the FAFSA Student Aid report that proves financial need. All applications must be submitted online by the deadline date.
