Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a high school senior or college freshman at the time of application.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  4. Must self-identify as either a gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender person, or as a supporter of gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender people.
  5. Must be a resident of Sacramento, California.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available for current high school seniors and college freshman residing in Sacramento, California. Applicants must be LGBT or a committed ally dedicated to positive change through community service and advocacy.

Additional Information: PFLAG Sacramento is proud to offer this award each year to deserving LBGT students or allies who demonstrate academic achievement and a commitment to enacting positive change in their communities. This scholarship is named in honor of The Rev. and Mrs. Merrill Follansbee, chapter founders and proud parents of a gay son.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available at the Sacramento Chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) website. In addition to a completed application form, students must submit two letters of reference - one from a teacher or faculty member, and one from an individual who is familiar with the applicant's community service efforts. Students must also submit an unofficial transcript and an essay in response to the question listed on the application. All application materials and supporting documents must be received online by the deadline date.
