Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to five awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
  3. Must be a resident of Washington state.
  4. Must be attending or plan to attend a Washington state college or university.
  5. Must be pursuing a journalism degree.
  6. Must be a high school senior or undergraduate student to apply.
  7. Must be a minority student.

Additional Information: Since its inception in 1986, more than 100 students from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds have received grants to support their studies.

Award Amount: $2,500, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Additional information is available on the provider's website. Students must complete the online application, which includes contact information, ethnicity, school information (current and future), journalism and writing experience, professional organization memberships, community service, contact information for two references, and a statement of financial need. Students should also include a minimum of three links to examples of their best work. In addition, students will also need to include an essay (500 words or less) explaining why they wish to pursue journalism as a career. Students must also upload copies of their most recent transcripts and resumes. The online application and all materials must be submitted by the deadline date.
