Additional Information: The National Press Club, the leading professional organization for journalists, wants to recruit promising future journalists who will bring diversity to American journalism. The scholarship consists of a $2,000 one-year scholarship, which can be renewed for up to three years at $2,500 per year. The first-year scholarship includes an additional $500 book stipend, the Ellen Masin Persina Scholarship. This scholarship is named for Ellen Masin Persina, a Press Club member who died in 1992 at age 41.

Award Amount: $2,500 annually, renewable for up to three years. The scholarship includes a $500 book stipend.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Applications are available on the National Press Club (NPC) website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit three copies of the following items: three letters of recommendation (none from family members); a signed FAFSA; a brief essay as described within the application; a high school transcript; a letter of acceptance from the college/university of his/her choice or some documentation indicating where he/she has applied; and no more than five work samples demonstrating an ongoing interest in journalism through work on a high school newspaper or other media. These may be newspaper articles (reduced to 8 1/2" by 11" size) or multimedia stories on a CD or DVD. Students must file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by the deadline date. The FAFSA is available online, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. All application materials MUST be included in one package. If application materials are not included in one package, the National Press Club will not process the application. Applications must be postmarked by the deadline.
