Number of Awards & Eligibility: Five awards offered annually, one per region (Capital, Seacoast, Fitchburg, Portsmouth, Portland). One alternate winner will be selected for each scholarship in the event that an award is declined or that the winner subsequently becomes ineligible. The alternate winner will not be notified unless the original winner declines or becomes ineligible.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a high school senior at time of application.
  3. Must plan to enroll in a degree program with a declared major or concentration in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) field.
  4. Must reside (i.e., primary address) and attend school in one of the cities/towns located in a Unitil service territory. The student can view information on Unitil's service territories by clicking on the "Energy for Residents" tab on the Unitil website and then clicking the "Territory Map" link.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for high school seniors who reside and attend school in Unitil's service territory in Massachusetts, Maine, and New Hampshire. The student must major in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) field.

Additional Information: The Unitil Scholarship Committee will base its decision for awarding scholarships on a combination of factors including academic merit, financial need, other scholarships awarded, outside student activities, and other relevant factors such as the number of hours worked outside of class during the school year. Winners will be notified by April 30 via U.S. mail.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, non-renewable. Please note: A recipient of a previous scholarship from Unitil is not eligible to apply for another scholarship from Unitil.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications are available online on the Unitil website. Please note: To access the scholarship information, the student must select the state where he/she resides from the "Residential" drop-down menu. In addition to a completed application, the student must submit the following: an official transcript of high school grades; a letter of recommendation from a science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) teacher or high school principal, which also includes verification of major field of study and the expected date of graduation; and an essay addressing career objectives, why he/she is applying for the scholarship, and why he/she merits the scholarship above all others. The completed application and supporting materials may be mailed or emailed using the addresses listed. If mailed, the application must be postmarked by the deadline date. If emailed, the application must be sent no later than the deadline date.
