Number of Awards & Eligibility: 15 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a graduating high school senior.
  4. Must plan to attend University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
  5. Must have an unweighted grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  6. Must plan to major in computer science or software engineering.
  7. Must plan to enroll full time.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Graduating high school seniors who have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and plan to attend UW-Eau Claire are eligible for this award. Students must plan to major in computer science or software engineering; preference will be given to graduates of Rice Lake and Viroqua high schools in Wisconsin.

Additional Information: Preference will be given to graduates of Rice Lake and Viroqua high schools in Wisconsin, if qualified applicants are available from those areas. The Department of Computer Science Scholarship Committee will select recipients. Recipients will be notified in March. All Karlgaard scholars are expected to make satisfactory progress toward a degree in computer science or software engineering and maintain an overall grade point average of 3.3 or better. They must also collaborate with a UW-Eau Claire computer science faculty member to produce at least one scholarly publication and/or formal presentation external to UW-Eau Claire in each of the junior and senior years, giving proper recognition to UW-Eau Claire and to the Karlgaard Computer Science Scholarship Foundation.

Award Amount: $5,000  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $75,000.

Program information is available on the University of Wisconsin (UW)-Eau Claire website by clicking on the 'UW-Eau Claire Foundation Scholarships' tab. Students apply for this award via the UW-Eau Claire online scholarship application. Students must activate their university account, if they have not already done so, to access the application. Once their account is activated, they must sign in to the application using their university username and password. The online application must be submitted by Feb. 1.
