Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three awards offered annually, one in memory of Howard T. Markey, one in memory of Helen W. Nies, and one in memory of Giles Sutherland Rich.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be majoring in law or pre-law.
  3. Must be currently enrolled in undergraduate school or law school at time of application.

Description: This award is available for currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students who are majoring in law or pre-law. Applicants must demonstrate financial need, interest in specific aspects of the legal profession, and academic promise.

Application requirements for the FCBA Judicial Scholarships are:

  • Personal statement
  • Official Transcript
  • Curriculum Vitae/Resume
Additional Information: Financial assistance will be given by the Federal Circuit Bar Association to a law student showing financial need, demonstrated academic promise, service, either in undergraduate studies or in law school. All of the submitted materials will be considered, and prior academic performance will not be the primary criteria for selection. Separate submissions for each award are not needed.

Award Amount: $10,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.

Application information is available at The Federal Circuit Bar Association website. Selection for the award will be based primarily on a written submission of no more than 450 words on one page setting out the applicant's financial need, any interests in particular areas of the law, and any qualifications for the award considered relevant by the applicant. The submission should also include all of the applicant's college and law school transcripts, and a one-page curriculum vitae. An applicant will be considered for all scholarships for which he/she is eligible. It is not necessary to submit more than one application. Completed applications must be submitted by midnight EST April 15 via email in PDF format. The subject line of the email should read 'FCBA Scholarship Submission.'
