Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  2. Must be entering his/her first year at an ABA-accredited law school.
  3. Must be financially disadvantaged.
  4. Must have earned an undergraduate grade point average of 3.2 or higher.
  5. This award is for U.S. students.
  6. Must have an interest in diversity, and in corporate law.
  7. Must be a full-time student.

Description: This award is for students entering their first year of law school who are citizens of the U.S.. Applicants must have an interest in diversity and corporate law, be financially disadvantaged, and have earned an undergraduate grade point average of 3.2 or higher.

Additional Information: The MCCA Lloyd M. Johnson, Jr. Scholarship Program provides scholarship support for newly entering first year law students pursuing a Juris Doctor (non-LL.M.) degree. The scholarship program will provide scholarships at $10,000 for the first year of law school - additional financial support may be available in years two and three. MCCA intends to foster mentoring opportunities for the selected scholars as well as assist in the placement of the winners in paid summer internship positions with corporate law departments during the summer immediately following successful completion of their first year of law school.

Award Amount: $10,000 for the first year of law school, additional support may be offered for further years. This award is non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.

Applications are available online from the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) website. The student must register with his/her email and password to access the online application. In addition to the completed application, the student must upload his/her unofficial undergraduate transcript(s) and graduate transcript(s) as applicable; resume; provide the contact information for two recommenders; and respond to the two-part essay questions listed. All documents must be scanned and uploaded into the online application. Applications must be submitted online by the deadline date.
