In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be enrolled full-time at an accredited college or university.
  2. Must be U.S. Citizens. Permanent Residents and Dual Citizens may be accepted at a few designated labs.
  3. Must be majoring in science or engineering.

Description: The Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program is available for college students who want to pursue science and engineering careers. Students will study and work in a Navy laboratory during the summer months of the program and will be introduced to new technology and career opportunities within the Navy.

Application requirements for the Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program are:

  • Recommendation letter
  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Official Transcript.
Additional Information: The Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program (NREIP) provides an opportunity for college students to participate in research at a Department of Navy (DoN) laboratory during the summer. The goals of NREIP are three fold. To encourage participating college students to pursue science and engineering careers. To further education via mentoring by lab personnel and their participation in research. And to make them aware of DoN research and technology efforts, which can lead to employment within the DoN. NREIP interns will be selected based upon academic achievement, personal statements, recommendation, and career & research interests.

Award Amount: $7,000: New undergraduate student participants. $8,500: Returning undergraduate students (students MUST have completed a full 10 week program in a prior year to receive this level). $11,000: Graduate students  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $26,500.

Applicants apply on the provider website by first setting up a user account. You can apply to at least 2 specific labs with a 3rd option to choose to be placed at any lab. To activate this option, you must select the "All Labs" option on the Program Information page of your application. A complete application includes a letter of recommendation, official transcripts and contact info.
