Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards varies.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a high school senior.
  2. Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  3. Must have a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale.
  4. Must attend classes full-time at the college of their choice in the U.S., and then work during the summer at NSA for at least 12 weeks in areas that are related to their course of study.
  5. Must be majoring in math, science, or another field related to cybersecurity.

Additional Information: Award recipients in the Stokes Program receive an annual salary, plus up to $30,000 for tuition and mandatory educational fees per academic year. A position in the Stokes Educational Scholarship Program means you will attend classes full-time at the college of your choice in the U.S., and then work during the summer at NSA for a minimum of 12 weeks in areas that are related to your course of study. If you are selected as a program participant, you are required to work in your area of study at NSA after your college graduation for at least one-and-a-half times your length of study. If you should leave NSA employment earlier, NSA will make arrangements for you to pay back the government for your tuition and mandatory educational fees. Also, students accepted into the program must maintain at least a 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale each semester/quarter in the freshman year and a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale each semester/quarter after the freshman year.

Award Amount: The scholarship value is up to $30,000 for tuition and mandatory educational fees per academic year. Awards are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $30,000.

Program applications will be accepted between September 1st and November 15th.To apply for the Stokes Educational Scholarship Program, applicants fill out a form on the provider website. After completing the application for the first time, or reviewing previously entered information, and clicking the 'Submit' button, NSA sends a confirmation email. The application must include several supportive documents. These include, a letter of Recommendation (ex: from a teacher/counselor/advisor) who can attest to your academic ability, a one-page essay entitled, "I want a career at NSA because...", an official transcript from your high school which indicates your cumulative GPA and class rank (if applicable), a copy of your SAT/ACT or College Board scores.
