Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. In prior academic years, there were 64 scholarships awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be of African American, Hispanic/Latino, Asian American, or Native American heritage.
  3. Must be enrolled at one of the following Connecticut postsecondary institutions: Albertus Magnus College, Central Connecticut State University, Connecticut College, Eastern Connecticut State University, Fairfield University, Quinnipiac University, Sacred Heart University, Southern Connecticut State University, University of Connecticut, University of Hartford, University of Saint Joseph, Western Connecticut State University.
  4. Must be enrolled in an undergraduate teacher preparation program and must plan to teach in a Connecticut public school after graduation.
  5. Must be a resident of Connecticut.
  6. Must be a currently enrolled as a college junior or senior.
  7. Must be a full-time student.
  8. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for Connecticut upper-level undergraduate students who are enrolled in an undergraduate teacher preparation program at an eligible college or university in Connecticut. The student must be a minority student (African, American, Hispanic/Latino, Asian American or Native American heritage) and intend to teach in a Connecticut public school after graduation.

Application requirements for the Connecticut Minority Teacher Incentive Grant Program are:

Additional Information: Applicants must begin teaching in a Connecticut public school within 16 months of graduation to receive the annual stipend.

Award Amount: Up to $5,000 annually, renewable for one additional year. Eligible students may also receive a $2,500 yearly stipend for four years after graduation.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications are available online from the Connecticut Board of Regents for Higher Education website. Section A of the application should be completed by the student. Section B of the application must be completed by the Dean of Education (or appropriate official) at the student's school. Applications must be submitted by the deadline date using the contact information listed.
