In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must major in music education.
  3. Must be a native-born or naturalized U.S. citizen.
  4. Must be a college junior at time of application.

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. college juniors who are majoring in music education.

Additional Information: This scholarship is funded by the Gretchen E. Van Roy Endowment.

Award Amount: $1,150 annually, non-renewable. The award will be paid directly to the accredited college or university school of music at the beginning of the recipient's senior year.Please note: In the event of financial shortfalls, advertised award amounts may be adjusted. Applicants would be notified of the award change.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,150.

Applications are available on the National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit letters of recommendation from two members of the music education faculty (sent under separate cover). In these letters, the recommender must state an evaluation of the student's potential as a music educator, including proficiency in voice and piano; creativity; resourcefulness; ability to achieve cooperation from students, co-workers and community; and to what extent the student has a personality that will make students of all ages love music. The recommenders should also include internship success and what has been accomplished in this area. The student may also include any comments about any subjects he/she has completed or is completing. Since this is not a performance-based award, these additions will be helpful and appreciated by the NFMC. If the student is not already a member of the NFMC or is not a member of an NFMC Student Club at his/her university, he/she must apply for NFMC membership at time of application. Instructions on applying for membership are included on the application. Please note: Affiliation with a Music Educators National Conference will not substitute. The application, $10 submission fee, and all supporting materials must be mailed to the address provided, postmarked by the deadline date. Letters of recommendation may be mailed or emailed.
