Number of Awards & Eligibility: Six awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must possess a bachelor's degree from an institution of higher education at the the time of receiving the graduate scholarship (not necessarily at the time of application).
  3. Must be accepted or enrolled in a graduate construction/industrial engineering, architectural or materials science program at an accredited college or university in the U.S. or Canada by the time the scholarship is awarded.
  4. Must be a full-time student, as defined by his/her university, during the entire scholarship year. Course work during a summer session will count toward the degree year.

Additional Information: The following five awards are available for graduate study. The Kumar Mehta Scholarship was initiated by Dr. Mehta in 2002 to recognize students pursuing research on sustainable development of concrete. Recipients must demonstrate an ongoing effort to conduct graduate research on sustainable concrete. Applicants for the Steward C. Watson Memorial Scholarship must be focusing his/her graduate studies in the field of joints, bearings, or seismic systems for concrete structures. The Katharine and Bryant Mather Scholarship was established in 1988 to honor Katharine and Bryant Mather for their exceptional contributions to the knowledge of concrete. Initial funds were contributed by the sponsoring committee of an international symposium held in 1987 to honor the Mathers. Continuing funding is providing by a gift from the Mather estate. The scholarship is for graduate study in the field of concrete. The ACI Bertold E. Weinberg Scholarship was named in 2003 to recognize Mr. Weinberg. This scholarship receives funding through generous contributions by members of ACI International. The ACI Scholarship Award was also established by the ACI Scholarship Council and receives funding through generous contributions by members of ACI International. Additional named awards are provided in honor of the contributions of Schwing America and W. Gene Corley.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $30,000.

Applications are available online from the American Concrete Institute (ACI) website by clicking the 'ACI Foundation Scholarships' button. To receive consideration for any of the graduate scholarships offered, the applicant will need to submit only one application. In addition to the completed online application, each student must submit a current one-page resume; a one-page essay of no more than 500 words addressing the extent of his/her interest in concrete (additional details are available within the application); two completed online reference forms; and all undergraduate and graduate transcripts. Candidates must be proficient in the English language (or French as required in the Province of Quebec, or Spanish in Puerto Rico). If one of the preceding languages is not the applicant's native language, a written statement must be attached to his/her application attesting to proficiency. All applications and supporting documents must be saved in Microsoft Word format and must be submitted through the online application portal. Emailed, faxed, and hard copies will not be accepted. Applications and supporting documents must be submitted through the online application system no later than 11:59 p.m. EST on the deadline date.
