Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, 52 awards were offered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is available for international and U.S. students. Non-U.S. citizens must have proof of holding a valid J-1 or F-1 status or an Employment Authorization Document (EAD/OPT).
  2. Must be a current graduate student, postdoctoral scholars or have completed graduate studies or postdoctoral research within the last five years.
  3. Must be studying any social/behavioral science, medical/health discipline, physical or biological science, any field of engineering, law/business/public administration, or any relevant interdisciplinary field.

Application requirements for the Christine Mirzayan Science & Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship Program are:

Additional Information: All fellows will be required to complete a fellowship in Washington, D.C. at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. Fellowship periods are twelve weeks plus a one week orientation. Recipients will be unable to attend classes or seek outside employment for the duration of the program.

Award Amount: $9,000 will be provided as a stipend grant award for the 12-week session to offset expenses. The award is offered annually and is non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $9,000.

Applications are available online from the National Academies website. Each applicant must first register using his/her email and password. In addition to the completed application, the applicant must submit a 500-word writing sample on the topics listed within the application and two online reference forms. The online references must be received prior to submitting an application.
