Number of Awards & Eligibility: Number of awards vary each year. For 2019-2020, six awards were given.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate award.
  3. Must be pursuing a course of study in industrial engineering.
  4. Must be an Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineers member as reflected on his/her October chapter roster or before. New member applications must be completely processed prior to the end of September in order for a student to be eligible.
  5. Must enroll as a full-time student.
  6. Must have a grade point average of 3.4 or higher.
  7. Must plan to attend a college or university in the U.S., its territories, Canada or Mexico.

Description: This award is for current undergraduate students who are majoring in industrial engineering, have a grade point average of 3.4 or higher, and are members of the Institute of Industrial Engineers.

Application requirements for the Dwight D. Gardner Scholarship are:

Additional Information: Scholastic ability, character, leadership, potential service to the industrial engineering profession, and need for financial assistance are all considered by the scholarship fund trustees when selecting the scholarship recipients. Nominees must be active institute members enrolled in an accredited agency recognized by the IISE.

Award Amount: Four $3,500 awards and two $3,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $20,000.

A student cannot directly apply for this scholarship; he/she must be nominated by his/her industrial engineering department head or faculty adviser. Nomination forms are available on the Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineers (IISE) website and must be completed online by Nov. 15. Please note: Students that are nominated and if selected as a finalist will be sent an application package to complete and return to IISE. Applications must be postmarked on or before Feb. 1.
