Number of Awards & Eligibility: One scholarship offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a high school senior at time of application.
  3. Must be a U.S. resident.
  4. Must pursue an engineering or related science degree through an ABET-accredited program. A listing of ABET-accredited programs is available online at main.abet.org/aps/Accreditedprogramsearch.aspx.
  5. Must have a grade point average of 3.75 or higher.
  6. Must rank in the 90th percentile in both math and critical reading on SAT I or composite ACT scores.

Description: High school seniors who plan to enroll in an ABET-accredited engineering program is eligible for this award. An eligible applicant must have a grade point average of 3.75 or higher, and have SAT/ACT scores ranking in the 90th percentile.

Additional Information: Hendrickson International, a Boler Company, established an endowment to underwrite the scholarship in memory of the late Edward D. Hendrickson. Mr. Hendrickson was deeply committed to the truck industry and was considered one of the foremost authorities on truck suspensions in the nation. He was active in SAE, where he chaired local, regional, and national committees and published several papers on truck suspension systems. Scholarship recipients will be notified by June 30. All SAE scholarship winners will be posted in July/August.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, renewable for three additional years. Renewal students must submit a renewal form by May 30 annually.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications are available online from the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) website by clicking on the "Freshman Year of College Scholarships" link. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following materials: a copy of his/her SAT/ACT scores if not included on his/her transcript (copy printed from website acceptable); and an official high school transcript. Application materials must be submitted online by the deadline.
