Number of Awards & Eligibility: Six awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a high school senior at time of application.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
  5. Must attain a minimum test score on the SAT (600 math, 500 verbal) or the ACT (26 math, 21 English). The scores are used only as a minimum threshold level, and are otherwise not used in the selection process.
  6. Must plan to graduate from a Florida high school where he/she has attended for at least one semester.
  7. Must enroll in an engineering program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.

Description: This award is available for U.S. high school students who plan to graduate from a Florida high school that they have attended for at least one semester. Students must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, and a minimum test score on the SAT (600 math, 500 verbal) or the ACT (26 math, 21 English). Students must also enroll in an engineering program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

Additional Information: The Florida Engineering Society will grant scholarships to graduating high school seniors who have a genuine interest in engineering and might need financial assistance. The initial judging will be made by the local FES Chapter Scholarship Committee on the basis of each candidate's high school record. Those selected will compete on the state level. The courses the student has taken and the credits earned for the 10th through first semester of 12th grades will be used to help evaluate the application. All courses except physical education and drivers' education will be considered. The student will be awarded supplemental credit for math, computer, natural science and mechanical drawing courses, as well as Honors, Advanced Placement, IB, and college-level courses. For purposes of this scholarship, college-level courses are defined as those offered by a university, college or junior college for which special high school or college credit is earned by the applicant. The announcement of all scholarship recipients will be made by May.

Award Amount: $2,500 annually, non-renewable. The scholarship will be paid directly to the university or college financial aid office rather than to the student. The scholarship is contingent upon enrollment in an engineering program and being accepted by the college or university of the recipient's choice.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $15,000.

Applications are available on the Florida Engineering Society (FES) website. In addition to the completed application, the applicant must also submit the following: a copy of his/her AP or IB test results; and a certified copy of his/her high school transcript which should include grades for his/her 10th, 11th, and the first semester of 12th grade years. The applicant must ensure that his/her SAT or ACT scores are included on the transcript, or he/she must attach a copy of the official test result report. If the applicant's transcripts do not list class standing for the last completed semester then a signed letter from a principal or guidance counselor providing the size of the applicant's class and his/her class standing must be submitted. Also, the student should make sure that his/her transcript clearly indicates all courses that are included in the high school Honors or Advanced Placement programs; any courses completed from a college or university curriculum for which high school credit is earned; and any credits earned from a special industry program. Students must submit two copies of the application, one in Excel format on a CD and one as a paper copy. The application and all supplemental materials must be sent to the student's local chapter representative. Contact information for local representatives is available on the FES scholarship webpage.
