In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Maine.
  3. Must major in a field related to commercial farming, fishing, or forest products or in another field with the intent to work in businesses related to these industries.
  4. Must attend a Maine postsecondary institution.
  5. Must be a former member of 4-H or be currently involved in 4-H.
  6. Must be currently enrolled in college at the undergraduate level.

Description: This scholarship is available for Maine undergraduate students who are former or current 4-H members. Students must attend a Maine institution and major in a field related to commercial farming, fishing, or forest products or in another field with the intent to work in businesses related to these industries.

Additional Information: Scholarships are awarded based on a combination of demonstrated academic and 4-H excellence. Recipients will be requested to attend the foundation's annual meeting to receive their scholarship in person.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable. Scholarships are payable upon successful completion of the first semester of school. To receive the scholarship funds, recipients must mail a completed first-semester transcript to the foundation office. A check, made payable to the recipient, will be sent by the foundation within two weeks of receiving the transcript.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. The Farm Credit of Maine Scholarship is awarded to a Maine 4-Her planning to continue their post-secondary education at a Maine institution and whose objective is to major in a field related to commercial farming, fishing, or forest products, or in another field with the intent to work in businesses related to these industries. Applications are available online on the Pine Tree State 4-H Foundation website. Please note that this scholarship has a separate application from the other 4-H awards. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: a college/university transcript; a letter of recommendation from his/her past 4-H volunteer, extension educator, or staff person; and a letter from a current university faculty member. The student's application must also be reviewed and signed by his/her county 4-H staff; the application will not be accepted without this signature. Contact information for county 4-H offices is available on the Pine Tree State 4-H Foundation website by clicking on the 'UMaine Extension County Offices' link at the bottom of the page. Applications must be submitted to county 4-H staff by the deadline date. The complete application must be mailed to the Pine Tree State 4-H Foundation at the address provided.
