In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a graduate student or conducting post-doctoral research.
  2. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  3. Must enroll full time.
  4. Must submit an original research work on the history of electronic devices.

Description: This fellowship is for international and U.S. graduate students and post-doctoral researchers studying the history of electrical science and technology.

Application requirements for the IEEE Life Members’ Fellowship in Electrical History are:

  • Application form
  • Recommendation letter (3)
  • Official Transcript
  • Detailed description of research
Additional Information: The IEEE Life Members' Fellowship in Electrical History supports either one year of full-time graduate work in the history of electrical science and technology at a college or university of recognized standing, or up to one year of post-doctoral research for a scholar in this field who has received their Ph.D. within the past three years.

Award Amount: The Fellowship consists of a stipend of $17,000 and a research budget of $3,000. The award is offered annually and is non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $20,000.

Applications are available online form The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) website. In addition to a completed application, students must also submit: a detailed (approx. 10-15 pp.) description of your proposed research, discussing subject, scope. methodology, and the contribution that this work will make to the field of electrical history; letters of recommendation from three (3) references; and certified transcripts of all university records.
