Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately 15 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must attend or plan to attend North Carolina State University.
  3. Must have an interest in majoring in paper science. Students with an interest and/or current major in engineering, chemistry, or chemical engineering are eligible to apply for this award as long as they then major or double major in paper science.
  4. Must be an incoming freshman or transfer undergraduate student at time of application.
  5. Must plan to attend a college or university in North Carolina.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for international and U.S. undergraduate students at North Carolina State University who have an interest in majoring in paper science. Students who are currently majoring in paper science or are majoring in a similar discipline such as chemistry, chemical engineering, or engineering are all eligible to apply.

Application requirements for the NCSU Pulp and Paper Foundation Merit Scholarship are:

  • $70 app. fee
  • Test scores
Additional Information: The decision about who will receive the scholarships is usually made in the third week of February. Students will be notified by mail about the decision.

Award Amount: $2,500 for the first year, and then $3,000 annually for the remaining three years. If a student leaves NCSU to go on a semester co-op experience, the award is temporarily suspended for that semester, but it is restored upon the student's return, and the total number of semesters awarded will still be eight (that is, the award is simply pushed forward one semester).  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $11,500.

Applications are available online on the Pulp and Paper Foundation (PPF) website. In addition to a completed application, students must submit high school and/or college transcripts. The application and all supporting materials must be submitted online after Dec. 1 and no later than the deadline date. Please note: In order to be considered for the scholarship, the student must also apply for admission to NCSU as a paper science and engineering major. More details are available at cnr.ncsu.edu/wps/futureundergrads/howtoapply.html . Freshmen are encouraged to apply for admission by the early decision deadline of Nov. 1. Application for undergraduate admission to NCSU and the Department of Wood & Paper Science (WPS) must be done online using WolfPAW, NCSU's personal admissions website, located at https://wolfpaw.ncsu.edu/ . In addition to a completed admissions application, the student must submit the following: a $70 non-refundable application fee; a current high school transcript, including a list of senior year courses in progress, cumulative grade point average and class rank (if applicable); and official SAT or ACT scores (including scores for the writing section), sent directly from the testing agency to NCSU (SAT code #5496, ACT code #3164). Transfer students are not required to submit test scores, but must submit transcripts from all institutions attended, in addition to the same components as freshmen applicants.
