In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be an undergraduate student at the time of application.
  3. Must be majoring in a field related to concrete, such as construction and material sciences.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.

Description: This award is available for full-time undergraduate students who are majoring in a field related to concrete, such as majors with an emphasis on structural design, materials, construction, or any combination thereof.

Additional Information: This scholarship honors the memory of Richard D. Stehly, a past president of the American Concrete Institute, whose long-term commitment to concrete construction achieved great progress for the field. The awards will be made on the basis of demonstrated interest and ability to work in the field of concrete construction. Completed and pending course work will be considered. Academic excellence will cause a candidate to be considered over another when other factors are equal.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications are available online from the ACI ConREF website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: a one-page resume; a transcript of college credits from all institutions attended; two or more completed online reference forms (one must be from a faculty member and the other should be from his/her employer); and an essay of no more than 500 words explaining his/her interest, experience, ability, and career objectives as they relate to sustainability in concrete construction. All documents must be submitted as Microsoft Word files (.doc or .docx). All materials must by submitted through the ACI online application form by 11:59 p.m. EST on the deadline date.
