Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually. One Saul Horowitz, Jr. Memorial Graduate Award and one Heffner Scholarship for Graduate Students.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must plan to enroll as a full-time student.
  3. Must be enrolled, or planning to enroll, in a graduate level (master's or doctoral) construction management or construction-related engineering degree program.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  5. Must be a college senior or already be in possession of an undergraduate degree at time of application. The applicant must have one or more academic years remaining as of the fall of 2006.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: College seniors or graduates who are planning to enroll full time in a construction-related engineering graduate program are eligible to apply for this award. Applications are available online from the Associated General Contractors (AGC) website.

Application requirements for the Saul Horowitz Jr. Memorial Graduate Award/Heffner Scholarship for Graduate Students are:

  • Recommendation letters (2)
  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • Interview (semi-finalists only)
Additional Information: Applications will be reviewed and winners pre-selected by the Board of Directors of the AGC Education and Research Foundation, which will consider the applicant's interest in construction, grades, extracurricular activities, employment experience, adult evaluations, and financial status. Semi-finalists will be notified by mail in February. Awards will be announced at the AGC Annual Convention in March, and winners will be notified by mail in February/March. Checks will be sent directly to the winners in August.

Award Amount: The award will be paid in two annual installments of $3,750.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $7,500.

Applications will be available online from the Associated General Contractors (AGC) website in an online format. Applications must be submitted online after July 1. In addition to the completed application, each student must attach an electronic copy of his/her official transcript. The applicant must also identify two people to provide evaluations for him/her including once college faculty member and one employment supervisor. Emails will be sent to each evaluator requesting his/her input. Evaluators will need to visit www2.agc.org/scholarship/index.cfm?fuseaction=evallogin to begin their evaluations. Completed evaluations will be sent directly to the AGC Foundation; however, the applicant may review the status of each evaluation at any time through the application status page. Incomplete application packages will not be considered. The deadline for application and evaluation submission is Nov. 3 at midnight EST. All applicants selected as semi-finalists will be subject to a personal interview with a representative of the AGC Education and Research Foundation.
