Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  2. Must be enrolled in a mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, or related baccalaureate program.
  3. Must be entering his/her final year of undergraduate study. Generally, students will apply for this award during their junior year; students in a five-year program must apply during their fourth year.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.
  5. Must be enrolled full time.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: U.S. students who will begin their final year (i.e., fourth or fifth year) of undergraduate study in the fall are eligible for this award. Students must be studying mechanical engineering.

Additional Information: This scholarship was made possible by the ASME Auxiliary to honor Sylvia W. Farny. Applicants must be enrolled in an ABET-accredited school for the upcoming academic year. Information regarding accreditation status is available online at main.abet.org/aps/Accreditedprogramsearch.aspx. Applicants also must have established a grade point average in their degree programs to qualify. If applicants have not established a grade point average at the college level, they are not eligible to apply. All applicants will be notified of the scholarship results between June 15 and July 1. Scholarship money will be sent to scholarship winners by the end of August.

Award Amount: $3,000 annually, non-renewable. Scholarship awardees from past years will not be selected to receive additional scholarships. Students must apply again each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $6,000.
