Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, two scholarships were awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be enrolled full time at an accredited college or university.
  3. Must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher for the first three years of college, and be recommended by an academic advisor.
  4. Must demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in hydraulics, hydrology or the geotechnical disciplines, or in another discipline related to the design, construction and operation of dams.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must be enrolled in an accredited civil engineering program.
  7. Must be enrolled as a college senior planning to graduate in the school year the award is presented.

Description: This award is available for U.S. college seniors planning to graduate in the current academic year. Students must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher for the first three years of college, demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in hydraulics, hydrology or the geotechnical disciplines, or in another discipline related to the design, construction and operation of dams, and be enrolled in an accredited civil engineering program.

  • Essay
Additional Information: Each applicant will be judged on his/her academics, financial need, work experience/activities, and written essay.

Award Amount: $5,000 to $10,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $7,500.

Applications and additional information can be obtained on the Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO) website by clicking on the 'Students/Academia' link under the 'Career Center' tab. In addition to a completed application, the student must submit a recent college transcript, three letters of recommendation (one of which must be from an academic advisor), and a typewritten essay of no more than 500 words in length addressing the topics listed on the application. Applications must be postmarked by the deadline.
