In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must have a permanent residence within the boundaries of the NACE Western Area. The Area includes the following states: Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington.
  3. Must have an interest in furthering his/her knowledge of corrosion and corrosion control. Applicants may be students or non-students.

Description: This scholarship is open to any individual who demonstrates an interest in furthering his/her knowledge of corrosion and corrosion control. Applicants must have a permanent residence within the boundaries of the NACE Western Area.

Additional Information: Scholarship funds are to be applied to direct costs of formal education courses related to the field of corrosion control. Books and materials specifically required for completion of a designated course may also be included. “Formal education course” is defined as a structured class, presentation, or home study program. In addition to NACE International education courses and seminars, acceptable examples would include courses offered by an accredited college or university, or by industry, or such other programs as may be approved by the area upon application. Applicants may apply for as many scholarships as they are eligible; however, a maximum amount of $10,000 per student (excluding travel assistance) will be awarded in any given year. Once a candidate reaches the $10,000 maximum, that candidate’s remaining application(s), if any, will not be considered by subsequent Selection Committees. If the candidate applies for and receives a single scholarship that exceeds the $10,000 maximum amount, that candidate will be excluded from consideration for all subsequent scholarships. All applicants will be notified via email no later than mid-February about the status of their applications. Applicants who are awarded a scholarship through the NACE Foundation must submit their written acceptance of the scholarship award. All scholarship recipients will be recognized at the NACE Annual Conference in March. Recipients must notify the NACE Foundation of their intent to attend the NACE Annual Conference as soon as possible after notification of award. Recipients are highly encouraged to attend the conference in person to be acknowledged. NACE Foundation scholarship recipients are eligible to apply for travel assistance to supplement their travel to the annual conference to accept their award in person. Relatives of members of the Selection Committee or NACE Foundation staff are ineligible to apply.

Award Amount: $1,200 annually, non-renewable. Previous applicants and recipients are eligible to reapply each year in open competition with new applicants.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,200.

Applications are available online on the NACE International Foundation website. Please note: Applications must be submitted online via the Foundation’s scholarship system. The applicant must upload his/her academic transcript to the online application if a student; the transcript must contain a description of the grading system. The applicant must also submit the following: a Nomination Form A from a Section Trustee in the NACE Western Area; a Nomination Form B acknowledging and accepting the nomination; an additional recommendation form from an educator, colleague, or employer familiar with his/her background; and an essay on why the scholarship is needed and how funds will be utilized. Forms for nominations, recommendations, and essays are available on the NACE International Foundation website. Applications must be submitted by by the deadline. Application materials submitted after the deadline will not be considered. The NACE Foundation reserves the right to extend any and all scholarship deadlines at their discretion.
