Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  5. Must have an ACT score of 21 or higher, or an SAT score of 990 or higher.
  6. Must be planning to major in English.
  7. Must attend Missouri Valley College in Marshall, MO.
  8. Must be planning to attend a college or university in Missouri.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for incoming freshman at Missouri Valley College who are planning to major in English. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, an ACT score of 21 or higher (or SAT equivalent), and must submit an essay about a work of writing that has influenced them.

Additional Information: Provided in honor of Loren Gruber, this scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates a profound and insightful appreciation of their favorite written work. Selection will be based on academic merit as well as the quality of essay contribution in terms of spelling, grammar, structure, readability, clarity of focus and message, and creativity of content.

Award Amount: $10,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.

Applications and information about this award can be found online at the Missouri Valley College website using the link provided. To be considered for this award, the applicant must submit an essay of about 500 words describing his/her favorite book, blog, poem, essay, play, or film. The essay should describe how this work has influenced the student, specifically in his or her goals for college and beyond. In addition, students must submit an application for attendance at Missouri Valley College. The complete application for admissions consists of an online or printed application form, copies of the student's transcripts indicating grade point average and class rank, and any applicable SAT or ACT score reports. All applications for admission must be received, and all essays must be emailed to the listed address no later than the deadline date.
