Ford Emerging Voices Scholarships

Two promising female undergraduate or graduate student applicants are wanted to provide future journalistic content for AWM. The “Emerging Voices” Scholarship program consists of two scholarships. The winner will receive $3,000 and the runner-up will receive $1,000, made payable directly to each student’s educational institute.

The Loren Gruber Scholarship

This scholarship is available for incoming freshman at Missouri Valley College who are planning to major in English. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, an ACT score of 21 or higher (or SAT equivalent), and must submit an essay about a work of writing that has influenced them.

Pride Foundation Alaska Scholarship

This award is available for students in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, or Washington who are self-identified lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT), members of LGBT families, or straight-allies who have been strongly supportive of the LGBT community. Applicants are considered a resident of one of these states if they currently live within that state and have done so for at least three months prior to the application deadline.

The Leo W. and Alberta V. Thomas Utz Scholarship – English is a scholarship in the amount of $4,000 year for up to four consecutive years to students who are pursing undergraduate or graduate degrees in English. Renewal is conditional upon maintenance of a GPA of 3.25 based on a 4.0 scale used by the educational institution.

AAJA Sports Journalism Scholarship

The Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit educational and professional organization. At present, it has more than 1,500 members across the United States and Asia. Since its founding, AAJA has been at the forefront of change in the journalism industry. The Al Young Sports Journalism Scholarship honors its namesake. Al Young is an award-winning journalist who blazed many trails for Asian American sports journalists. He is the nation’s first Asian American sportswriter at a metro daily. He is also the first Asian American to cover the NFL as the New Haven Register beat writer for the New York Giants and Jets. The AAJA Sports Task Force is pleased to offer a scholarship of up to $2,000 to current college students interested in pursuing sports journalism/media as a career through the Al Young Sports Journalism scholarship.
