This scholarship was established in March, 2005, by the family of Karolyn King Carter to honor her dedication to and love of the visual arts. The scholarship recognizes and rewards visible talent in a student planning to study visual arts. Preference will be given to applicants planning to attend school in Tennessee and work in the East Tennessee area following graduation. Factors to be considered by the selection committee will be: financial need; general aptitude for advanced educational work; evidence of participation in and service to the community; and the maturity and professionalism of the student, in that order of importance. The selection committee reserves the right to conduct brief interviews with finalists.
