Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must have between 30 and 102 completed semester hours, effective at the end of the fall semester of the current year.
  3. Must be enrolled at Ball State University.
  4. Must be majoring or minoring in telecommunications, and have a reasonable expectation of becoming a professional in the telecommunications industry.
  5. Must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours at time of application, and must continue to be enrolled as a full-time student in the semester following the awards presentation.

Description: The Letterman scholarship is available for rising juniors and seniors at Ball State University who are majoring or minoring in telecommunications. Additional Information: A committe of full-time faculty and two graduate students will evaluate all projects. Awards will be presented at the Telecommunications Awards Ceremony at 6 p.m. on April 25, 2019. All winners may be required to demonstrate proof of their project's authenticity before a review board. All winners will be expected to provide two copies of their project, one to be placed in the Letterman Scholarship Library and one to be sent to Mr. Letterman.

Award Amount: The winner will receive a $10,000 scholarship. The first runner-up will receive a $5,000 scholarship. The second runner-up will receive a $3,333 scholarship. All awards are offered annually and are non-renewable. The scholarships will be applied to the following academic year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $6,111.

Applications are available online on the Ball State University (BSU) Department of Telecommunications website by clicking on the scholarships link. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit a creative project. The project must be in one of the following categories: written, audio, video, interactive media project, or other. The project must be able to be clearly defined as falling into the area of telecommunications. The project should include acknowledgements for any outside assistance; these acknowledgements should not be more than two pages. The project should be the intellectual property of one person. The student must also submit a list of the telecommunications courses he/she has received credit for, and a description of how he/she conceived, developed, and prepared his/her project. All application materials must be submitted to the Department of Telecommunications Administrative Coordinator by 5 p.m. on the deadline date.
