Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards varies each year the program is offered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be U.S. citizens or have obtained permanent residency status.
  2. Must be a full-time student or matriculated but not yet have completed thesis film.
  3. Must be nominated by the dean or department chair of the film program.
  4. Must be an undergraduate or graduate student at the time of application.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Undergraduate and Graduate Film Scholarships are directed to the school, who in turn, allots the money designated by the Foundation to the filmmaking student. The money in this category MAY NOT go toward tuition or matriculation fees. It MUST go toward the production of the film (location scouting, shooting costs, editing, etc.).

Application requirements for the Film Grant Scholarships are:

  • Essay
  • Recommendation letter
  • Nomination
  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Resume
  • description of project thesis
  • brief artist statement
  • script or story summary
  • budget of proposed thesis project 2-3 work samples
Additional Information: The Princess Grace Foundation is a national organization that supports the talents of artists. They offer scholarships in playwriting, theatre, dance, choreography, animation and film. The category of Film is includes (but is not limited to) narrative/documentary/experimental/animation/hybrid work, as well as new work including media installations, transmedia, webisodes, interactive web work and other projects where the moving image is the main component. Undergraduate and Graduate Film Scholarships are directed to the school, who in turn, allots the money designated by the Foundation to the filmmaking student. The money in this category MAY NOT go toward tuition or matriculation fees. It MUST go toward the production of the film (location scouting, shooting costs, editing, etc.). PGF-USA funds MAY NOT be used to pay the nominee a director’s fee or other fees.

Award Amount: Scholarships are awarded to help support students’ thesis film projects at the undergraduate and graduate level. Grant amounts generally range from $7,500 - $30,000.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $30,000.

Applicants must be nominated by their respective dean/department chairs. A school may nominate both one undergraduate and one graduate student. Each applicant submits a completed form along with a resume, description of project thesis, brief artist statement, script or story summary, budget of proposed thesis project 2-3 work samples and nominator recommendation. The nominator must also supply a biography, list of nominating faculty, description of program offerings and a letter from IRS certifying the 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.
