Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award provided annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must attend Poughkeepsie High School.
  2. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 to 3.5.
  4. Must plan to major in education.
  5. This award is for U.S. students.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.

Description: This award is available to graduating seniors attending Poughkeepsie High School. Applicants must plan to pursue an undergraduate major in education.

Additional Information: Established by the family and friends of Dennis J. Markle, this scholarship is available to a graduating student of Poughkeepsie High School who plans to major in education and pursue a career in teaching.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online from the Community Foundation of the Hudson Valley website at the address provided. In addition to the completed application, each applicant must submit two letters of recommendation (one academic and one personal); a copy of his/her most recent transcript; a copy of the student's Student Aid Report (SAR) and Expected Family Contribution (EFC) information; and an essay of approximately 500 words responding to the prompt listed on the application. The Student Aid Report (SAR) is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Applications must be completed online by the deadline date.
