Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. In past years, 30 to 50 awards have been offered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must enroll full time at an accredited college or university.
  3. Must pursue a degree in design or art discipline and plan to enter a career in the creative profession. Applicable careers include: advertising (art direction only), graphic design, illustration, photography, fine arts, and interactive design/motion graphics.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  6. Must be matriculated (or planning to matriculate) as an undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited college or university in the United States for the entire upcoming academic year.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available to current and upcoming college students with a grade point average of 2.0 or higher who are pursuing a degree in the fine or commercial arts, design or architecture. Basic scholarships are awarded in the amounts of $2,000–$3,000. An amount up to $5,000 may be given at the jury’s discretion.

Additional Information: Though not a requirement, minority status is a significant factor considered in jury decisions. However, financial need is a requirement. Scholarships are only awarded to those students who are in financial need. The applicant must, therefore, be approved for financial aid by his/her educational institution. Entries will be evaluated by a jury of creative professionals appointed by Worldstudio Foundation and AIGA. In selecting the winning entries, jurors will take into account a number of factors, including: quality of submitted work, financial need, minority status, academic record, recommendations, and strength of written statement of purpose. All applicants will be notified via email in late June.

Award Amount: Basic scholarships are awarded in the amounts of $2,000 to $3,000 annually. One or two top awards in the amount of $5,000 are also given each year at the jury's discretion.In addition, honorable mention prizes in the amount of $200 may also be awarded. All awards are non-renewable, but recipients may reapply each year.Worldstudio/AIGA will notify schools of financial awards, and distribute scholarship monies directly to the institution's financial aid office, half in the fall and half in the spring. Each recipient is required to notify Worldstudio/AIGA of any change in academic status.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

All applications for Worldstudio AIGA Scholarships must be completed in two parts: one that is online (Step 1) at the Worldstudio AIGA Scholarship website and one that must be mailed (Step 2). The applicant can obtain the paper application to be mailed on the Worldstudio Foundation website. The online application requires the applicant to submit a written statement of purpose (600 words or less), a portfolio with examples of work, and a self portrait. Please note: The applicant is highly encouraged to thoroughly read the application packet for detailed information about the online application process. The paper application requires the applicant to submit financial information, a recent college or high school transcript, and two letters of recommendation. Incoming college freshmen must also submit a copy of their college acceptance letters. Film/video, animation, and new media students must also include a VHS tape or Mac-compatiable Zip Disk, CD or DVD in the package with their paper applications, and a self-addressed stamped envelope with adequate postage if they wish to have their work returned. The paper application, transcripts, letters of recommendation, etc., must be mailed to the address listed on the application. Both applications must be received on or before the deadline. Late applications will be disqualified.
