Number of Awards & Eligibility: The award amount varies annually. Last year, seven scholarships were awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate award.
  4. Must be a resident of the the Pacific Southwest Chapter Area (San Diego, Las Vegas, Bakersfield, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Maria or Palm Springs).
  5. Must intend to pursue a career in telecommunications or a related field.
  6. Must enroll in three or more courses per semester.

Description: This award is available for U.S. undergraduate students who are residents of the Pacific Southwest region and are majoring in a television-related discipline.

Additional Information: In addition to rewarding the work of professionals in the television industry through its annual Emmy Awards, the Pacific Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences also encourages students preparing for careers in the industry through its scholarship program, which is open to students in television-related disciplines in area colleges and universities.

Award Amount: $500 to $5,000 offered annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $35,000.

Applications are available on the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Pacific Southwest Chapter website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit the following: a short statement of his/her education/experience in telecommunications and career goals; special circumstances; an official transcript through the most recent semester or quarter; and letters of recommendation from at least two teachers or faculty members who have had the opportunity to oversee the student's work and aptitude. The student must also submit one of the following: a film or video production on which he/she was the principal writer, director, producer, principal actor or similar major creative role; a concept or treatment for a production; a script he/she wrote for any type of film or video, along with a brief statement of the type of show and aims for the film/video; or a treatment, script or storyboard for a 30-second television Public Service Announcement. The application must be completed or generated online and all supporting materials must be submitted to the address provided, and be received by the deadline date.
