Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a resident of the ARRL Midwest Division area (IA, KS, MO, NE).
  2. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.
  3. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  4. Must be a licensed radio amateur (any class) OR the child of a deceased radio amateur.
  5. Must major in journalism, computer science, or electronic engineering.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for a licensed radio amateur or child of a deceased radio amateur who is a resident of Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, or Nebraska. Applicants must major in journalism, computer science, or electrical engineering.

Additional Information: The ARRL PHD Scholarship is available for amateur radio operators in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, or Nebraska who are majoring in journalism, computer science, or electronic engineering. Additional preference may be given to the son or daughter of a deceased radio amateur. Recipients are typically notified by mid-May by USPS mail and email.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available on the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) Foundation website. Applications must be completed online. Students need only submit one application for all scholarships for which they are eligible. The student must provide contact information for one educational reference, one character reference, and one social reference on the online application. The student must also submit a copy of his/her academic transcript from his/her most recently completed school year to the email address provided. The transcript must be scanned and submitted as a PDF. Applications must be submitted online by 11:59 p.m. EST on December 31. Transcripts must be received by January 13.
