Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be graduating from Lakeland High School in Westchester County, New York.
  2. This award is for U.S. students.
  3. Must plan to major in journalism.
  4. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.

Additional Information: Established in memory of Bret Allen Frattellone, this scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating senior from Lakeland High School who plans to major in communications at any accredited college or university in the United States.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online from the Community Foundation of the Hudson Valley website at the address provided. In addition to the completed application, each applicant must submit two letters of recommendation (one academic and one personal); a copy of his/her most recent transcript; a copy of the student's Student Aid Report (SAR) and Expected Family Contribution (EFC) information; and an essay of approximately 500 words responding to the prompt listed on the application. The Student Aid Report (SAR) is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Applications must be completed online by the deadline date.
