Number of Awards & Eligibility: 2 to 4 awards offered annually, The Don & Lorena Meier Scholarship and the Silver Circle Scholarship.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a full time student.
  2. Must be enrolled in a high school within the ADI (area of dominant influence) of the television markets within the Chicago/Midwest chapter jurisdiction OR have your primary residence (home address) within the ADI of the television markets within the Chicago/Midwest chapter jurisdiction OR be a relative of a member in good standing of the Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the Television Academy. The television markets that the Chicago/Midwest Chapter covers are: Chicago, IL; Peoria-Bloomington, IL; Rockford, IL; Green Bay-Appleton, WI; Madison, WI; Milwaukee, WI; Wausau-Rhinelander, WI; and South Bend-Elkhart, IN. Contact the Television Academy office to clarify any details in regard to the chapter's ADI or scholarship eligibility requirements.
  3. Must demonstrate a course of study that supports the intention to pursue a career in the television industry.
  4. Must be entering senior year of college, or be an accepted graduate school student.
  5. This award is for U.S. students.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for U.S. high school seniors who plan on enrolling in a full-time course of study in a field related to the television industry. The applicant must attend a school within the ADI (area of dominant influence) of the television stations within the Chicago/Midwest chapter jurisdiction OR be a relative of a member in good standing of the Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the Television Academy.

Application requirements for the NATAS Chicago/Midwest Chapter Scholarship for Graduating High School Seniors are:

  • Essay
  • Interview (finalists only)
  • Recommendation letter (2)
  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • Resume
Additional Information: Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of professional potential and commitment. Finalists will be interviewed by the scholarship panel in early to mid-May.

Award Amount: $1,000 to $2,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,750.

Applications are available online on the Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) website. In addition to completed application, applicants must submit the following: resume that includes internships as well as employment history, at least two letters of recommendation: one from your department head or a communications instructor and the other from industry-related internship or employment, and an official copy of college transcripts. Applicants are required to complete and return the application materials by 5 p.m. on the deadline date.
