Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must enroll full time at an accredited four-year college or university.
  3. Must have an interest in photojournalism.
  4. Must pursue a career in television production.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  6. Must be a college junior or senior at the time that the award is given.

Description: This award is available for U.S. college juniors and/or seniors who have an interest in photo journalism and are pursuing a career in television production.

Additional Information: Opportunities for true photojournalism in television news have prompted this scholarship. It is one way to encourage those involved in television production to see the person holding the camera as more than a camera person, a true photojournalist. This award is aimed at those students with television news photojournalism potential, but with little opportunity and great need. A student may apply for more than one scholarship, but may receive only one NPPF scholarship in a given year.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online from the National Press Photographers Foundation (NPPF) website. Before beginning the online application, the student should prepare the following information: contact information for his/her faculty advisor; contact information for a faculty member who will be contacted to submit a recommendation; three short essays listing his/her academic and journalistic accomplishments, explaining his/her need for a scholarship, and stating his/her goals in visual journalism; and his/her overall grade point average.All applicants must submit a portfolio that contains up to 10 total entries. An "entry" is defined as a single picture, a multiple picture story, a multimedia story, or a website link at which the applicant has done significant interactive programming or design. Portfolios must be assembled and submitted according to detailed instructions. These instructions are available on the NPPF website at nppf.org/nppf-scholarships-grants-and-awards/portfolio-submission/.Application materials must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. ET on the deadline date.
