Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must contribute to diversity in the field of public relations.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  4. Must be majoring in public relations or a related subject.
  5. Must be enrolled in his/her junior year of college during the year of the award.
  6. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  7. Must be a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America.

Description: This scholarship is available for members of the Public Relations Student Society of America who are entering their junior or senior year of college. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 and contribute to ethnic diversity in the field.

Additional Information: The PRSA Foundation created this award in honor of Ofield Dukes who passed away in 2011. He was an honorary trustee of the Foundation and a widely recognized leader in the public relations profession. The scholarship fund was established by a gift from the PRSA Foundation, and founding gifts from Prudential Financial and from Weber Shandwick.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online from the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must submit the following materials: a one or two page resume including any academic honors, special projects, activities, work experience, or training that he/she would like to be taken into consideration; and at least two, but no more than five letters of academic and professional recommendation. At least one letter of recommendation must be written by a faculty member or academic advisor, and at least one letter should be written by a professional reference who is familiar with the student's professional work. All applications and supporting materials must be submitted online by the deadline date.
