Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be enrolled as an undergraduate student in good standing in the current academic year.
  3. Must be a full-time student in good standing.
  4. Must be pursuing a career in radio, television, or digital journalism.
  5. Must be from or studying in the San Francisco Bay Area (CA).

Description: This scholarship is open to undergraduate students who are from or studying in the San Francisco (CA) Bay Area. Students must be pursuing careers in radio, television, or digital journalism.

Additional Information: The Pete Wilson Journalism Scholarship was established in 2007 to honor the late Pete Wilson, a San Francisco television and radio journalist. The scholarship is awarded to a student who shares Wilson's commitment to ethical, responsible journalism. The scholarship will be awarded in December. The winner is also invited to attend the Excellence in Journalism conference.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, non-renewable. Please note: Past winners may not reapply; however, they may apply for fellowship opportunities.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications are available on the Radio Television Digital News Foundation (RTDNF) website. The same application is used for all undergraduate scholarships; however, the student may only apply for one scholarship. In addition to the completed online application, the student must submit a resume and a letter of recommendation from his/her dean, faculty advisor, or internship advisor. The student must also submit a cover letter that discusses the following topics: his/her current and past journalism experience; how he/she would use the funds if he/she were to receive the scholarship; and his/her choice to pursue a career in electronic journalism. Finally, the student must include links to 3-5 of his/her work samples. Work samples should be broadcast (television/radio) or online news pieces, and should be uploaded to a host site like YouTube, Vimeo, SoundCloud, etc. Applications and all required attachments must be submitted by the deadline date.
