  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a professional journalist with less than 10 years of experience.

Description: Fellowships are available to international and U.S. journalists who have fewer than 10 years of experience as a professional journalist. Applicants may not be past fellowship winners.

Additional Information: The following named awards are available through this program: the N.S. Bienstock Fellowship (awarded to a promising minority journalist in radio or television news); the Michele Clark Fellowship (awarded to a young, promising minority journalist in radio or television news); the Vada and Col. Barney Oldfield National Security Reporting Fellowship (awarded to a reporter or producer in radio or television news to help them cover national defense and security issues); the Jacque I. Minnotte Health Reporting Fellowship (recognizing excellence in health or medical television and radio reporting). Fellowships will be awarded in December. Winners are also invited to attend the Excellence in Journalism conference.

Award Amount: Fellowship award amounts are as follows: $2,500 for the N.S. Bienstock Fellowship; $1,000 each for the Michele Clark Fellowship and the Vada and Col. Barney Oldfield National Security Reporting Fellowship; and $2,000 for the Jacque I. Minnotte Health Reporting Fellowship. All awards are offered annually and are non-renewable. Past fellowship winners may not apply for a second RTDNF fellowship  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,625.

Applications are available on the Radio Television Digital News Foundation (RTDNF) website. The same application is used for all undergraduate scholarships; however, the student may only apply for one scholarship. In addition to the completed online application, the student must submit a resume and a letter of recommendation from a professor, advisor, or supervisor. The student must also submit a cover letter that discusses the following topics: his/her current and past journalism experience; how he/she would use the funds; and his/her choice to pursue a career in electronic journalism. Finally, the student must include links to 3-5 of his/her work samples. Work samples should be broadcast (television/radio) or online news pieces, and should be uploaded to a host site like YouTube, Vimeo, SoundCloud, etc. Applications and all required attachments must be submitted by the deadline date.
