Number of Awards & Eligibility: Six awards offered annually. Two awards will be given for the Presidents' Scholarship, and one award will be offered for all other scholarship programs.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a full-time student.
  3. Must pursue a career in electronic journalism or broadcast media (e.g., radio, television, cable, and online news). Students may be enrolled in any major as long as their career intent is in electronic journalism.
  4. Must be enrolled as a college sophomore, junior, or senior in the upcoming academic year.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: A number of scholarships are available through this program to international and U.S. college sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Students may be majoring in any field, but must be pursuing a career in electronic journalism.

Additional Information: The following named scholarships are included in this program: the Ed Bradley Scholarship; the Carole Simpson Scholarship; the Presidents' Scholarship; the Lou and Carole Prato Sports Reporting Scholarship; and the Mike Reynolds Journalism Scholarship. Scholarships will be awarded in December. Winners are also invited to attend the Excellence in Journalism conference.

Award Amount: Awards will be given as follows: $10,000 for the Ed Bradley Scholarship; $2,000 for the Carole Simpson Scholarship; $1,000 for each of the two Presidents' Scholaships; $1,000 for the Lou and Carole Prato Sports Reporting Scholarship; and $1,000 for the Mike Reynolds Journalism Scholarship. All awards are offered annually and are non-renewable. Please note: Past recipients may not reapply for an undergraduate scholarship; however, they may apply for fellowship opportunities.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,667.

Applications are available on the Radio Television Digital News Foundation (RTDNF) website. The same application is used for all undergraduate scholarships; however, the student may only apply for one scholarship. In addition to the completed online application, the student must submit a resume and a letter of recommendation from his/her dean, faculty advisor, or internship advisor. The student must also submit a cover letter that discusses the following topics: his/her current and past journalism experience; how he/she would use the funds if he/she were to receive the scholarship; and his/her choice to pursue a career in electronic journalism. Finally, the student must include links to 3-5 of his/her work samples. Work samples should be broadcast (television/radio) or online news pieces, and should be uploaded to a host site like YouTube, Vimeo, SoundCloud, etc. Applications and all required attachments must be submitted by the deadline date.
