Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a current high school senior planning to enter college the same year after graduation.
  2. This award is for U.S. students.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  4. Must plan to pursue a career in journalism.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Additional Information: The National Press Club is pleased to announce that the late Richard G. Zimmerman, a member of long standing, has endowed a significant scholarship in aid of high school seniors who wish to pursue a career in journalism.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications are available online from the National Press Club website. In addition to the completed application, the applicant must submit three work samples (these may be print articles reduced to 8 1/2 by 11 size or multimedia stories on a CD or DVD); three letters of recommendation from non-family members; high school transcripts; a completed and signed copy of the submitted FAFSA; and a letters of acceptance from the institution of his/her choice or some documentation indicating his/her application status. Students must file the FAFSA (Federal Application for Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Three copies of all supporting documents must be submitted in one package and postmarked by the deadline date.
